Harley-Davidson DL

On offer is a special and rare Harley-Davidson Model DL from 1931. A historic American motorcycle from the early years of Harley-Davidson and an interesting example for the serious collector. The Model DL was the High-Compression version within the D-series and was the sportier variant of the standard Model D. Thanks to a compression ratio of approximately 5.0:1, this version delivered approximately 18.5 hp, compared to approximately 15 hp for the standard version. The specified top speed at the time was approximately 113 km/h. Characteristic of this early Harley-Davidson is the special placement of the alternator/generator in front of the front cylinder. This vertical arrangement makes the alternator look almost like an extra cylinder from a distance, which earned these models the well-known nickname "Three-Cylinder Harley". The year of manufacture 1931 is also distinguished by the single large 7-inch headlight, instead of the double small so-called "bullet" headlights that were used on earlier versions. This example has a historic Dutch registration, NM-11-57, with the first admission dating from 1931 according to the available information. This contributes to the special historical character of the motorcycle.
